Wiggly Bridge walk

wiggly bridge with kids

Wiggly Bridge, York, Maine

I’ve done this walk at Wiggly Bridge only a few times. Even though it’s very close to my house and I have driven by it many times, it kind of stresses me out. If I was walking this alone it would be great! I’ve seen plenty of people walking their dogs here or on a walk with a friend and I’m a little jealous of how quiet the walk is for them! When you search for Wiggly Bridge and Fisherman’s Walk there are a lot of reviews that say this is “kid friendly”. Yes, it technically is kid friendly… for older kids. It is nice and flat so you could easily bring a stroller for younger kids.  The lack of railings on the sides along the water just make it a little not kid friendly for me.

Parking and fees

Parking here if you don’t live in York isn’t great. There are only 4 spots on the road for cars from people out of town. I’m sure you could park more on York Street if the parking spots were full though. It is much easier for people who live in York and have a town sticker. I think a lot of things near beaches are geared towards town residents. I definitely do appreciate that since I live in a beach town myself. It just makes it a little harder to visit spots with limited parking. It is free to park and walk on Wiggly Bridge though which is nice since it’s a quick walk!

bring another adult

The walk at Wiggly Bridge is a super easy, flat walk. The walk in the woods is easy and quick as well but it is just too dangerous for 3 wild boys! I think it is so helpful to have another adult on this walk to have an extra set of eyes on your kids! If you see my pictures you can see all the open sides of the walkway. At high tide if a kid falls over the edge it is right into the water. Also the bridge itself is not kid friendly. I was trying to let my kids be independent and walk across on their own but the mini heart attack I was having while watching them do that was more than enough for me. I took one picture of them on the bridge and sure it looks cute but I was dying on the inside! The water under the bridge was fast moving, since the tide was coming in, so if they accidentally fell in it would not have been good.

Fisherman’s Walk

When you park on the street you can see Wiggly Bridge and the walkway across the street. There are signs posted and they recommend you walk along the road the parking is on. You will go under the bridge and it is safer to cross that way. If you do this, there are signs that are posted about Fisherman’s Walk to the left. This is a small gravel pathway along the water. This is also so beautiful but there are no railings along the edges to keep kids from falling in. See all my pictures to see what I am talking about! The walkway takes you down to Stage Neck Road and York Harbor Beach. We didn’t make it that far because we didn’t have our Veer Wagon or stroller but we will have to go back and do that!

Bathrooms

There are no bathrooms here. If you just do Wiggly Bridge it is a very quick walk. If you go all the way down Fisherman’s Walk to York Harbor Beach I’m sure there are bathrooms down there but I haven’t done that yet. I’ll update this if I do!

Length of the walk

From the parking area, down the Wiggly Bridge trail, through the woods and back it’s only about 0.9 miles. It is such a quick walk! If you go to the left and do Fisherman’s Walk down to Stage Neck Road near York Harbor Beach that walk and back is just over 1.25 miles. The trail in the woods is not stroller friendly but the rest of both paths are stroller friendly. The trail in the woods could handle a wagon but it might be a little tough at times and we haven’t tried ours.
