Mother’s Beach

Mother's Beach with kids

Mother’s Beach and Mother’s Beach Playground, Kennebunk, Maine

This is one of our favorite playgrounds with ocean views! Unfortunately it was ruined in the storms we had in January 2024 and it is now closed. As soon as I know if it will be rebuilt I will update it here.

This is a great spot to visit in the off season

I love living on the coast of Maine, but some of the drawbacks are the amount of tourists in the summer and that you have to pay for parking. It definitely doesn’t stop us from going out, of course, I just have to plan a little bit ahead of time to visit certain places. Parking is tight here in the summer as the parking is limited and it is a little pricey. If you want to visit this in the off season, parking is free and the views are right in front of the parking so you don’t have to travel far from your car if it is a cold day!

Parking and Fees

Parking at Mother’s Beach is limited, so if it is a nice summer day make sure you arrive early! Below I attached a picture of the parking area that is right next to the beach. The fee for parking from June 15th- September 15th is $25/day for out of town residents. You can purchase and print a ticket from the kiosk at the parking lot. You can also download the Passport Parking App on your phone and purchase a parking pass through there. I always think the apps are much easier! Then you don’t have to wrangle kids in the parking lot while trying to pay for a parking pass.

Playground

I’m not going to say too much about this playground now until I know more if it will be rebuilt! It was such a great playground and had 3 different structures geared for kids of different ages. It also had non-obstructing views of the ocean and I LOVE that.

The bEach

The beach itself here is small but I think it’s perfect. At low tide there are plenty of rocks and tide pools and room to spread out. At high tide it is small, of course, but still some room for a blanket and to play. The neighborhoods around the beach are beautiful! So if it’s not too hot out or you get pushed out from the tide coming in, it would be nice to bring the stroller or wagon and walk around.

There are Bathrooms

According to the town website, it says there are bathrooms here. We visited in the off season last year and there were porta-potties available, as the bathrooms were closed. I’m not really sure where the bathrooms are located, I think they are near the playground, but if anyone knows can you let me know!
