New Castle, New Hampshire
New Castle will always be my favorite town in New Hampshire. Portsmouth is great and there is so much it has to offer, but I love this town! Walking the streets is a free activity with gorgeous views, so buckle the kids into a stroller or wagon and head to New Castle!
Free Parking
For this walk I like to park in the parking lot behind the post office and New Castle Police Department. It’s a small, free lot across the street from The Islander Cafe. There is street parking but it is limited. To me it is always easier to get the kids out of the car when I’m in a parking lot instead of on the street.
Grab a Coffee and Cruller From The Islander Cafe
If you do this walk, you have to stop in here first! I love this walk in the fall, after the summer rush has died down a little bit and the streets are quiet! A hot coffee and cruller is the perfect addition to this walk! My kids love their treats as there are so many to choose from! It also means I don’t have to pack a snack for them.
THe Walk
After you grab a coffee, take a turn down Walbach Street. You can continue down Walbach or turn left onto Piscataqua Street and that will take you down some beautiful back roads with little traffic. This is a perfect walk for strollers or wagons. I wouldn’t let my kids ride bikes on these streets because there are some hills they might find a little challenging, but they love the wagon ride!
If you continue down Walbach Street you will go right around a corner, it will turn into Wentworth Road and then you can take a left onto Ocean Road. At the end of Ocean Road is the ocean, views of Whaleback Lighthouse and Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse and the beach! This beach is very rocky but it’s a fun stop on the walk! The distance from parking, down Walbach Street and to the beach is only 0.38 miles, so it is an easy walk with kids!
