Ferry Beach State Park

ferry beach state park with kids

Ferry Beach State Park, Saco, Maine

After a failed attempt to get to Bayview Beach in Saco, we drove just a few minutes down the road to Ferry Beach State Park. I had driven by it in the winter and I had wanted to go but the gate was closed. The road from the gate to the beach is a little far. It is not doable in the winter but it’s a great spot to check out in the summer!

fees

I have loved visiting and checking out different Maine state parks! The fees to get in are so affordable and I definitely need that with three kids! As a Maine resident an adult is $5, a child aged 5-11 is $1 and under 5 is free. If you are not a Maine resident an adult is $7, a child aged 5-11 is $1 and under 5 is free!

parking

There is a large parking lot. I’ve seen a website that states “small parking lot” but for the amount of places we have been and the amount of places I need reliable parking at, I would consider this a large parking lot. We also came on a hot summer day, mid-week, and it was half empty. Maybe during the summer on a weekend it might fill up by mid-day!

flat, sandy beach

I realized on this beach trip that we are not flat, sandy beach kind of people. I didn’t even know that was a thing until I realized how bored my kids were here! They have grown up only going to the rocky coast of Maine, climbing rocks and finding tide pools. Every single beach trip I always bring a bag of sand toys with shovels, buckets, some large cars and monster trucks and it still wasn’t enough here! We left after a short stay and I was so thankful there were walking trails we could check out before getting back in the car.

There is a walking path to the beach with a wide boardwalk making it easy to pull the wagon and kids to the beach.

wagon friendly walking trails

There are some very easy walking trails in the woods here that all loop back to one another and one to a small pond. Make sure you bring bug spray if you are considering walking in the woods! We were at the beach for less than an hour and then did the walking trails and didn’t have enough bug spray for how buggy it was. Our Veer wagon could easily be driven on these trails, they were flat and easy to walk.
