Mount Agamenticus

Mount Agamenticus with kids

Mount Agamenticus, York, Maine

We love Mount A in York! It has the most beautiful views and you can drive right up to the top to experience them! In the 7 years that we have been in the area, we have only hiked it once. We are not big hikers, but we have driven to the top countless amount of times!

Parking

Parking at Mount A is so easy now! Years ago there was only street parking at the bottom and it could be challenging to find a spot to park and then hike up. Now there is a large parking lot at the bottom that you can’t miss as you are driving down the road and two parking lots at the top! Each spot is numbered and there are plenty of signs posted that instruct you how to pay. Parking is $2/hour from April 15th-November 15th. It is easy to pay for parking by scanning the QR code listed below the parking signs all over the parking lot.

Hours Mount A is open

From April 15th-August 31st Mount Agamenticus is open from 6am-7pm. From September 1st-November 15th it is open from 7am-4pm. Mount A is open year round! The access road to drive up to the top is open September-March from 7am-sunset and from April-August it is open 6am-sunset.

What to do at the top

We love visiting Mount A because the views at the top are some of the best around southern Maine. On one side you have views of the ocean and on the other side there’s beautiful mountain ranges! You can even see the top of Mount Washington and when we went in April you could see it was covered in snow. My kids love running around here! There are also picnic tables scattered around the top in nice shaded areas, so it is a perfect place to bring a lunch. There is a large grassy area they enjoy running around in and easy access to the many hiking trails that all open up at the top. There’s easy access to many trails and they usually go down one trail a little before I encourage them to turn around. Almost instantly they complain their legs are tired and they can’t hike back up and I end up carrying them. This is why we don’t hike but see below for the hiking trails they have!

Bathrooms

There are very new bathroom facilities open at the parking lots at the bottom and top! For off season use there is a porta-potty right next to the bathroom if you need it.

Lunch nearby

If you did not pack a lunch and you need some food after your visit here, Stonewall Kitchen is a 16 minute drive away! In the summer they have beautiful gardens outside with outdoor seating. They have a café with lunch and breakfast options and some coffee for a pick me up! Not to mention the entire Stonewall Kitchen store is right there and it’s all so good! It is located at 2 Stonewall Lane in York, Maine.
