Penobscot, Maine, 1 hour south of Acadia
The location of this house is a huge plus but the views and the huge yard are what really sold me! This is definitely one to save for a future trip someday! There was nothing about this house that I didn’t like. Besides the huge grassy yard with ocean views, there was a private beach AND a shed that was a game room. The beach was so rocky so make sure you bring water shoes, but it was beautiful! The sun set right across the water and no one was around, it was totally private.
Amenities and Features
This 4 bedroom house would be great for traveling with your kids but also bringing your parents or in-laws along. Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms, 2 with 1 queen bed and the other with 2 twin beds. Upstairs is a master bedroom with a private bathroom and sitting area. There is also a large window upstairs with views of the water and yard that we loved spending time in front of!
Besides the bedrooms, which are all nice and comfortable, the yard and shed outside are truly what we loved about this house. The yard is huge and pretty private, there is a neighbor the house shares a lawn with but you never have to go on that side of the house. There is an outdoor fire pit, a canoe and kayak you can use, beach chairs and a grill on the deck. The best part though, is the game room/ game shed!
A few steps from the house is a large shed, called The Clubhouse, filled with toys for kids, board games, corn hole, a ring toss game and a ping pong table! We spent so much time in there! It is not heated and we went at the end of September so it got a little chilly, but we still were out there a lot!
Some other things to note, dogs are not allowed, which was fine with us. The couches were white and I was so glad our black dog wasn’t there to make it a mess. They also have a washer and dryer in the basement, as well as a high chair. So many nice features to make this an unforgettable vacation.
Things to do in the area
We usually like to just stay at the house when we rent somewhere because we love to relax but there were a couple things we wanted to do an easy drive away and it was so worth it. I don’t love to fill my days with things to do every single day, I don’t do that on vacation and I definitely don’t do that at home either. But while you’re vacationing here here are two day trips I would recommend:
One day we drove up to Acadia and it was about an hour drive. Not a bad drive so the kids could take a nap. I hardly have recommendations for Acadia as that was my first time there! We did drive up Cadillac Mountain though and the views at the top were amazing!
Another day we drove over to Stonington, Maine and I have a blog post about that. I will link that here as we loved it and it was so charming. Definitely recommend and I am dying to go back there soon!
The nearest grocery store is about 20 minutes away and it is a Hannaford. We did a Hannaford-to-go pick up order the day before vacation so we could pick it up, as it is on the way, and it was perfect!
