Seapoint Beach

Seapoint Beach with kids

Seapoint Beach, Kittery Point, Maine

One of our favorite beaches is Seapoint Beach in Kittery Point, Maine. We love Seapoint for all of the climbing rocks at low tide, the fun tide pools and the sunrise! Before you think it is crazy going to the beach with kids for the sunrise… sometimes they wake up way too early and I can’t possibly watch another Disney movie at 6am so we get in the car! There have been many mornings they cry about everything! Sometimes getting their coats on is too much, then the wind is too much when we get there. They quickly get over it and it becomes our moment of calm for the day.

Check the tide schedule before you leave

Like Fort Foster (and probably a recurring theme in my blog posts about the southern coast of Maine), Seapoint Beach is GREAT at low tide but not so great at high tide. At low tide there are so many rocks to climb on which means there’s a lot of little tide pools full of hermit crabs and snails that the kids love! At high tide though there’s very little beach and sometimes a lot of seaweed depending on the time of year and the tides. Also at high tide in the summer there can be a lot of flies in the seaweed and that is definitely NOT fun with kids.

Parking and fees

Seapoint Beach is nice because it’s not so crowded. BUT it is not very crowded because there is limited parking for out of town residents, only a small section about 15 cars, and it’s quite a walk to the beach. If the out of town parking is full there’s really nowhere to park. The rest of the area is for Kittery residents and I have seen many cars get tickets for parking in these spots without a town dump sticker. This is also a dog friendly beach and a lot of people walk their dogs in the morning until 10am during the summer months. The out of town parking usually frees up a little right after 10am which is when I’d recommend to arrive as there is no fee to park here.

No Bathrooms

One important thing to note is there there are no bathrooms here! Even in the summer months, there is not a bathroom here.

Bonfires at the beach

Since we have 3 young kids we have always had a pretty strict bedtime at 7:30pm (they wake up early regardless of what time they go to bed… see above where we are up so early we get to watch the sunrise…) so we have never done a fire on the beach here. But it is allowed and it seems like a lot of fun! Check the Kittery town website linked below for more info on it.
