Wells Harbor Community Park, Wells, Maine
The first time I heard about this playground it was from a friend who grew up in Wells. She told me to check out Wells Beach playground after our beach trip (which is never possible because they always get so wet, even with rain suits on). I searched all over the maps app on my phone to try and find a playground close to Wells Beach but couldn’t. I gave up and forgot about it, but 9 months later someone suggested we check it out on my Instagram page and we were pointed in the right direction of where it is!
Location
This is not THAT close to the beach, it is located at 331 Harbor Road in Wells. If you are leaving the beach, you have to drive back to Route 1 and drive north. You go past the fire station and take the first right. It is about 3 miles away, or an 8 minute drive.
Parking
There is a LARGE parking lot and even some smaller lots all around. We visited in the winter after a snow storm so I had to drive over some unplowed snow (it was only an inch or two) but I could see how big it really was. Parking is also free here which is so nice for those quick trips! We parked directly next to the playground, only steps away from the car, it was so easy.
Playground
The playground at Wells Harbor Community Park was a lot of fun. There were 7 slides which is a lot for a small playground and my kids loved them! They had their rain suits on since it had recently snowed and everything was wet and melting, so they were flying down the slides and we were all laughing! It was the most I had laughed in days and we all needed it! There’s some swings for little ones and a couple regular swings for older kids. The playground is surrounded by beach grass and the playground ground is covered in sand, as opposed to bark mulch. You can also see the water and the harbor slightly through the grasses!
Facilities and town website
There are bathroom towards the entrance of the park, along the road. They are obviously seasonal, so were not open when we visited in the winter. The bathrooms aren’t directly next to the playground as the park offers more for other people, like a gazebo for summer concerts and events. Check out the town website here for more info:
